An Indo-Persian brass celestial globe. Unsigned and undated.

An unusual Islamic celestial globe, diameter 8 inches (20cm.), overall height 11 inches (28cm.). The brass sphere engraved with ptolomaic constellations and figures, some represented by mythical beasts and other unusual iconography, numerous stars indicated by a point and circle, the ecliptic and celestial equator graduated in degrees, every sixth lettered in abjad letter numerals, the numbering sequence repeating every 30 degrees. Further engraved with ecliptic, latitude, tropic and polar circles, constellations and some major stars named. Brass axis pin through poles, the globe mounted and clamped horizontally on a graduated unnumbered horizon ring, the brass stand with turned and fluted columns, united by cross-stretchers on the base (some discolouration and oxidation.)
