This drawing was executed at Vernet's, the cafe-chantant on the quai Henri IV which skirts the Avant-Port of Dieppe, and is one of several studies preparatory to the painting recorded in W. Baron Sickert, 1973, as no.397, fig.275, formerly in the collection of Geoffrey Blackwell
