Later Line Engraved 1855-63 One Penny Die II The Dr. W. R. D. Wiggins Collection This lovely collection has been formed over many years. The Die II, Alphabet III ranges contain selected examples almost throughout, and while there are a few faults, the overall condition is mostly outstanding. used The wonderful study (5138) of these plates, housed in two albums, the basis of the book "The Plating of Alphabet II" by Dr. Wiggins, the stamps arranged by check letters, AA-TL, with an example of each from almost every plate. Of the 5040 different "possibilities", 4994 are represented and there are 144 duplicates, mostly marked shades; virtually every stamp is picked for lightness of cancellation; plates 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13 are complete; plates 3, 10, 11, 14, 17 and 20 lack one position; plate 15 lacks three, plate 16 lacks 4, plate 21 lacks five, plate 19 lacks eight and plate 18 lacks twenty positions; an outstanding lot, S.G. Spec. #48,370+.
