AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE WHITE GROUND LEKYTHOS, attributed to the Theseus Painter, circa 500 B.C.

Incised detail showing two groups of a bearded warrior fighting back to back against a bearded horseman (tail to tail). The warrior on the right is naked apart from wearing a Corinthian helmet and greaves and holding a shield in his left hand and a spear in his right with which he lunges at his adversary who leans back on his startled horse to take aim with his spear. The warrior on the left is wearing a crested helmet, short chiton and sword in his belt. His right arm is raised aiming a spear at his mounted adversary. The left arm, which would have held the shield, has been omitted

The shoulder is decorated with palmette scrolls and tongues at the base of the neck

Condition: small repair to neck
