AN ATTIC RED-FIGURE LEKYTHOS, attributed to the Brygos Painter, circa 480 B.C.

The goddess Hera, holding a lotiform sceptre in her left hand and a phiale in her right hand, stands to the right, her long hair gathered under a ribbon which is folded loosely at the back and hangs down over her right shoulder; she wears a small disc earring. At her feet is a roaring lion, walking towards her, with detailed mane and lightly indicated ribs. To the right of her sceptre her name HEPA (Hera) is lightly painted in red

With meander frieze interrupted by diagonal crosses above and below. The shoulder is decorated with palmettes

Condition: virtually intact; small area of the surface on her dress has been lost
