AN ATTIC RED-FIGURE LEKYTHOS, attributed to the Brygos Painter, circa 480-470 B.C.

Depicting a nude athlete scraping himself with a strigil, he stands with weight on his left leg, his right leg bent forwards, whilst he looks back. He wears an athlete's cap. His left arm is extended and he scrapes his right shoulder and back with his right arm; a suspended aryballos and strigil or jumping weight seen in profile are in the field to the right; to the left is a low column with his draped mantle; a meander band below, and ovolo band below neck

Condition: unevenly fired; composed from fragments with handle and part of neck restored; slight retouching to the right hand
