AN ATTIC RED-FIGURE TALL-BOY LEKYTHOS, in the manner of the Meidias Painter, end of 5th Century B.C.

Depicting a toilet scene. A naked girl HELEN crouches in front of a small bush, combing her long hair with a double-edged comb. Above left an eros (EPOS) pours water from a hydria over her hair whilst above right stands another nude figure, Pothos (*OΥOΣ), holding up a mirror and casket. To the right stands Aphrodite holding a lily(?) sceptre in her left hand and issuing a command with her extended right hand. Her name, AΦPOΔI[TE], is inscribed above. On the left of the bathing goddess are two seated women, the upper woman pulling at the mantle on her right shoulder; the lower woman, to the right of whose face is written EUKLEIA, holds a wreath. A hilly landscape with vegetation is indicated by incision under the black glaze. Under the handle is an elaborate palmette and acanthus leaf pattern
