This figure was inspired by an engraving by Jacques Le Hay, "Recueil des cent èstampes représentant les différentes nations du Lèvant", pl. 82, published in Paris in 1714 and commissioned by Charles de Ferriol, the French Ambassador to the Sublime Porte.
