HOLTZMÜLLER, Heinrich. Warhafftige und grundtliche Abconterpheung des loblichen Fürstenthumbs Würtemberg. Tübingen: widow of Ulrich Morhart, 1559.

Woodcut broadside map of Württemberg, single sheet (490 x 340mm.). Circular map of Württemberg, orientated to the South, from Heilbronn to Blabeirn, Rechburg to Hornberg., with the River Neckar central to the map, framed by the Rhine to the North West, Danube to the South, Kocher to the East, numerous towns, castles and monasteries shown in profile, major districts names in scroll motifs, borders decorated with woodland scenes, animals and hunting views, corners decorated with arms of Würtemberg and historiated vignettes incorporating putti and a seamonster, title set in scroll above, verses in scroll below, scale along lower margin. (Upper and outer margin neatly restored, affecting upper left corner.) Provenance: Hauslab-Liechtenstein Collection (small blue stamp at lower right margin).

Apparently unique copy of the first regional map of Württemberg, and one of the most important regional maps of Germany, published separately. Holtzmüller was in part inspired by Münster, and in 1550 produced a map of Nördlingen for Münster. Thieme-Becker XVII p.411 18, only records this copy. 2 other copies in the Würtembergische Landesbibliothek at Stuttgart have been destroyed by fire.
