A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BACKSWORD with slender tapering blade double-edged towards the point, each side with a broad fuller extending to the point and a narrow fuller along the back-edge, large iron hilt with guard of fluted bars of rectangular section involving an oval aperture for the reins, and panels pierced with circles and triangles, bun-shaped pommel with tall button, and original spirally fluted wooden grip covered with shagreen (incomplete), and retaining part of the original wire binding (metal parts with light pitting), third quarter of the 18th Century
