A PAIR OF SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS with three-stage barrels (lightly pitted) octagonal then polygonal at the breech and engraved with foliage at the rear, gold-lined vents, engraved tangs, bolted border engraved rounded locks (one cock replaced) signed within a rococo cartouche and with water-drain behind each pan, moulded figured walnut full stocks (one fore-end tip chipped) inlaid in silver wire with scrolls and a trophy of arms around the barrel tangs, full mounts including pierced side-plates and escutcheons each cast and chased with a trophy of arms involving a bust of Minerva, trigger-guards each with shaped finial formed as a further bust of Minerva, and engraved spurred pommels each with grotesque mask cap, and horn-tipped ramrods, by John Parkes, Birmingham, Birmingham silver hall marks for 1774 and 1775, maker's mark of Charles Freeth
