Lot Essay

Two almost identical figures appear on a design for an ormolu and amboyna inkstand from George IV's Pictorial Inventory of Clocks and Candelabra illustrated H. Clifford Smith, Buckingham Palace, Its Furniture, Decoration & History, London 1931, pl.236. The inkstand is described in Jutsham's 1810 ledger as having been received from Mr. Dupasquier who was presumably the maker. An inkstand very close to this design and with the same figures was sold Christie's South Kensington, 15 October 1989, lot 249
