AN ITALIAN WALNUT, BURR-WALNUT AND EBONISED CABINET-ON-STAND with moulded rectangular top above a pair of red paper-lined frieze drawers adorned with supportive putti and centred by an armorial cartouche, the fitted interior centred by an architectural niche enclosing two drawers, one secret, and flanked by two further niches all centred by a putto with several further drawers mounted with flying putto handles, flanked by pilaster strips carved with standing figures, the sides similarly applied around a plain arcade, on stepped moulded plinth and on later English stand by Bertram & Sons, with turned columnar legs joined by an X-shaped stretcher, the cabinet constructed using 17th century elements circa 1830

With it decoration 'a bambocci', this cabinet belongs to a closely related group of studiolos originating from Liguria or Tuscany (See G. Rosa, I MOBILE NELLE CIVICHE RACCOLTE ARTISTICHE DI MILANO, MILAN, P.40-42). IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT THESE EXAMPLES ALL HAVE FRONTS CONSISTENT WITH THE PLACEMENT OF THE HINGES ON THE OFFERED LOT
