1900 (7-11 Apr.) Produced Photographically by Dr. D. Taylor, Perf. 12 on unwatermarked horizontally laid paper
The "Mafeking Blues" refers to the 1d. bicycle stamp, 3d. Baden-Powell stamp and #1 Siege Note, which were produced by the photographic ferroprussiate process.
The 1d. depicts Sergeant-Major Warner Goodyear, a young lad epitomising the essence of the Boy Scout, and the 3d. shows a bust of Baden-Powell, the commander of the besieged town.
Approximately 800 sheets, of twelve stamps each, of the 1d. were issued The 3d. comes in a narrow and wide format. About 500 sheets of the narrow format and 200 sheets of the wide format were issued.
#1 deep blue banknote, serial No. 45, with embossed One Penny handstamp of Bechuanaland Protectorate, signed by R. Urry, Mayor of the Standard Bank, and Capt. Greener, the Chief Paymaster of the Garrison. Issued in March 1900 and only 683 so issued. Very fine for this, minor corner fault. Rare. Photo
