Note:
Pennefather was employed on Special Service and served with 1st (The King's) Dragoon Guards during the war, being present at the cavalry affair at Erzungayan; he served subsequently in Brevet Colonel Sir Baker-Russell's Flying Column. Pennefather was later to command the Pioneer Column into Mashonaland in 1890
