Captain Frederick M. Gordon Hutchinson, the counter signature, took command of the Mounted Infantry after the battle of Kambula. He was present during the battle of Ulundi and his conspicuous gallantry in the field during a reconnaissance prior to the battle was bought to the notice of H.R.H. Commanding in Chief.
