Note:
Auchinleck served in the batallion for the duration of the war. He fought at Ulundi where the regiment formed a portion of the right of the hollow square and, with the 58th Foot, bore the brunt of the first onslaught of the Zulus, large numbers of whom got to within thirty yards of the line before they were stopped. He had served in the Ashanti war in 1874.
