A LARGE FINE MOMOYAMA CHURCH-STYLE CHEST decorated in gold, red and brown hiramakie on a roironori ground and inlaid in aogai, the drop front with a lozenge-shaped panel containing karashishi prowling beneath branches of maple surrounded by a foliate panel inlaid in aogai, framed by a panel of samegawa, the sides with foliate panels containing peacocks and cranes amongst tachinaba, both framed by samegawa, all sides bordered by a band of hanabishi design and Namban tendril, the interior with numerous various-sized drawers surrounding a central drawer of architectural form, all decorated with panels of ray skin surrounded by Namban tendril, the interiors decorated in roironuri, the reverse of the drop front with cranes amongst reeds and omodaka, gilt-metal engraved kanagu and two lacquered carrying handles (some restoration), Momoyama period (1573-1615)
