A FINE AIKUCHI TANTO, the blade hirazukuri, iorimune, takenoko-zori, ko-itame hada, hoso-suguha hamon of nioi, ubu nakago with two mekugi-ana, signed Suo Kuni ju Nagahiro and kao and dated Hinoto-U nigatsu no hi (1867), 24.3cm., the tsuka and saya black lacquered, the fuchi-kashira, koiguchi, kurikata and extended kojiri of gold rimmed shakudo decorated in low relief and kebori with gold butterflies and moths, the kurikata formed as a butterfly extending around the saya, the base of the fuchi silver and signed Hichoken Masatoshi and kao, the gilt seppa pierced to reveal the signature
