The bergère chair's boldly voluted and acanthus-enriched frame, reeded columnar legs and vase-shaped arm-supports on flowered pedestals, relates to the George IV antique style illustrated in The Upholsterer's and Cabinet-Maker's Pocket Assistant, circa. 1825 published by John Taylor, Upholder of Covent Garden (see: E.Joy British 19th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, 1977, p. 302).
