Baule artists consider helmet masks, which are visible manifestations of the men's cult, to be one of their most challenging commissions. The subtle differences in the treatment and painting of the features of the masks identiy the various personae of the bonu amwin dances (Barbier, 1993, Vol. II, pp. 119-121).
