LECTIONARY, with Commentary by Saint Augustine. Bifolium from a very large MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM
[Central Italy, ca. 1100]
550 x 370 mm., (margin of second folio trimmed), double column, 41 lines, justification 410 x 235 mm., ruled in drypoint, written in brown ink in a minuscule bookhand, rubrics in red, capitals touched in red, ONE LARGE DECORATED INITIAL 'A' (7 lines) in yellow, blue, red and green (just shaved at foot).
This bifolium was clearly used as a pastedown for the binding of an enormous book or manuscript, but is still in reasonably good condition. There is a hole touching text of 11 lines on one of the leaves, the text on the verso is slightly faded and the wide blank margins are a little frayed or stained.
