Imperial 2° (420 x 295mm.). 297 leaves. Table and parts of text in two columns. 59 lines. Woodcut title (neat clean tear, laid down on thick paper), approximately 1800 woodcut illustrations by Wohlgemuth and Pleydenwurff including the double-page maps of the World and Europe. (Occasional very light spotting, clean tear to title restored and laid down on paper, inner hinge of CLXXXI strengthened, map of Europe remounted on a later guard, and neatly repaired at upper margin.) Late 18th-century sheep, spine lettered in German (head of spine and corners rubbed). Provenance: J. Gottlob de Quandt (armorial bookplate); William Peckover (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN of the Nuremberg Chronicle, translated from the original Latin Liber Chronicarum, published by Koberger five months earlier. The text, particularly the account of Italy, was edited for the German market. BMC II, 437; Goff S-309.
