Four letters signed ('Nap' and, in one, 'Napol') to the Duke of Feltre, Paris, 17 April 1811, St Cloud, 21 April 1811 (two) and 22 April 1811, the first giving orders for the Portuguese half-brigade at Bourges to go to Orleans and for the disposition of other Portuguese troops, 2 pages, 4°, the second returning some inadequate information about the Portuguese and asking for more details, 'Bien Nourris, bien payés, melés à d'autres, en troupes [ils] me seront utiles mais il est necessaire avant tout de les faire sortir de France', 1½ pages, 4°, integral blank leaf; the third referring to arrangements for payment for provisions for officer prisoners of war, which must be referred to himself each month in future, ½ page, 4°; the fourth asking Feltre to suggest an officer to be appointed Commandant at Rome where there are many Iberians, ½ page, 4°, contemporary annotations attached to each letter.

An interesting group of letters revealing Napoleon's considerable anxiety regarding the loyalty of the foreign volunteers. 'Je ne puis laisser des troupes suspectes sur mes derrières; je ne puis pas non plus les désarmer puisqu'ils sont venus volontairement et que je n'ai point à me plaindre d'eux'.
