NAPOLEON I. Unpublished letter signed ('Np') to Prince Eugene, Paris, 3 February 1812, referring to purchases of rice '10 a 15,000 quintaux de Riz', from Italian supplies, one page, 4°, integral leaf cut away.

The letter refers to the building up of supplies for the Russian campaign. Napoleon wishes rice to be purchased at Milan and sent to Magdebourg, remarking that this will be an important operation for Italy, who will thus get rid of a surplus of rice. He adds that he wants no more brandy from Italy, 'J'ai renoncé aux eaux de vie. Je n'en veux plus tirer d'Italie. Vous n'y devez plus penser'.

Eugene de Beauharnais, Viceroy of Italy from 1805, was adopted the following year by Napoleon, who subscribes himself here 'votre affectionné père'.
