An Anglo-Dutch walnut longcase clock
Fromanteel & Clarke; circa 1700
The case plinth with concave-moulded base and later bracket feet, rectangular trunk door with glazed oval lendicle, the hood with twist columns and elaborately carved walnut panels to the sides and frieze and a similarly carved galleried top, the 12 in. sq. dial Fromanteel & Clarke on the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with black painted pierced steel hands, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, ringed winding holes and decorated calendar aperture, crown-and-cherub spandrels within a wheatear engraved border,the five pillar movement with anchor escapement and internal countwheel strike.
