A Charles II walnut bracket timepiece
Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit; circa 1685
The plinth case on solid moulded foot having glazed sides with pierced wood sound frets, similar frets to the front door with typical scroll-and-cherub lock-plates, foilate gilt handle to domed top, the 5¾ in. square dial signed Joseph Knibb London beneath the silvered chapter ring with finely matted centre, winged cherub spandrels, latches to the dial feet and to five ringed baluster-pillars single gut-fusee movement, re-converted verge escapement with knife-edge suspension, pull quarter repeat on two bells, the similarly signed backplate engraved with tulips and scolling foliage, secured with swivel latches on the dial; some restoration.
