The present glass belongs to an unusual group of small dated drinking vessels, those recorded in the literature all with lugs and loose rings to the bowls, of either clear or blue tint. These previously noted examples all bear dates of the 1590's; this, therefore, would appear to be the earliest dated recorded example. Cf.
