Daisy Philpot records, loc. cit., that the present picture was executed at the artist's country home, Baynard's Manor, near Horsham, Sussex, in the summer of 1933. It was inscribed to Miss Hilda Milne who picked the flowers for the artist in her garden at Dykes, Henfield, Sussex. Mrs. Shirley Woolmer, the first recorded owner of the painting, probably purchased it at the Leicester Galleries exhibition
