A preparatory study for the picture of Christ at the Column formerly in the Testori Collection, Milan, and later sold at Finarte, 6 June 1971, lot 109, as Cerano. The attribution to Gherardini, a pupil of Cerano, is due to Professor Ruggeri who published a study for Christ and the turbanned head of the executioner in the Accademia, Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia: Disegni Lombardi, Milan, 1982, no. 142, illustrated.
