Lot Essay

The recto is a study from life which appears in reverse, and with additional drapery, for the boatman in the view of the port at Leghorn with the statue of Ferdinand I of 1655, de Vesme, no. 844. Several drawings for this etching, and others in the series of six, were included in the Holford album sold in 1975. Others are in the Gabinetto Nazionale, Rome and in the Louvre
