As Peter Fuhring kindly pointed out, these drawings come from an album of stage designs, the main body of which was in the Fatio Collection. Drawings by the same hand from this source are in the Metropolitan Museum, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, formerly in the Houthakker Collection and elsewhere, P. Fuhring, Design into Art, London, 1989, no. 888, illustrated (with a list of all the Fatio group). A number of attributions for the group have been suggested, including Mauro Tesi and Giuseppe Valeriani, but none has found favour. The drawings are clearly inspired by theatrical designs by Ferdinando and Giuseppe Bibiena, but the hand does not correspond with any known member of the family
