2° (369 x 243mm). Roman and gothic type. 12 leaves printed on rectos only, 12 engravings by Johann Balthazar Probst (1673-1750) after Johann Jacob Schübler. (Leaf 7 just shaved at top margin, some very light soiling.) Contemporary blue-green wrappers lined with contemporary fragments of a musical score, stitched (some soiling, edges worn).
Schübler was a painter, mathematician and architectural theorist. His particular interest in interiors and their design and decoration is reflect is this series of twelve engravings after his work: the comic figures parody the behaviour and ritual of human courtship against backdrops of interiors and artfully arranged garden tableaux.
