Peter Turnerelli (1774-1839) was the son of an Italian modeller, but was born and trained in Ireland. He tutored the Queen and Princesses, and was made Sculptor-in-Ordinary to the Royal Family, a position which gave him a considerable advantage in obtaining further prestigious commissions. Notable among them were his portrait busts of George III, Louis XVIII, Wellington and Blucher. The present bust is an excellent example of his ability to combine both a physical likeness and an heroic ideal.
John, Earl of Ossory (1808-1854), was the eldest son of the 19th Earl and 1st Marquess of Ormonde.
