The pattern for the 'Louis XV' serpentined frame of this medallion-back chair was published by Thomas Malton in his Compleat Treatise on Perspective, 1775, pl. XXXIII, fig. 131. The rich buttoning reflects fashionable upholstery of the early 19th century
