Lot Essay

This elegantly serpentined card-table with inlaid floral medallion and airy arabesque foliage relates to the inlaid case of a square- piano which is dated 1775 and attributed to the Swedish 'inlayer' Christopher Fuhrlohg (d. circa 1787) of Tottenham Court Road, who about 1780 was appointed Ebèniste to George, Prince of Wales, later King George IV (see: 'Lord Leverhulme', Exhibition Catalogue, Royal Academy of Arts, London, 1980, p. 114, no. 117)
