Lot Essay

The sideboard-table's fluted frieze and plinth-supported 'herm' feet derive from a pattern illustrated in R. & J. Adam's Works in Architecture, 1774, pl. VIII. Its serpentined form Apollo-sunflower paterae and husk-festooned tablet relate to patterns for sideboards illustrated in A. Hepplewhite & Co., The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788
