Lot Essay

The present work is closely related to a drawing in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool of the same two figures in an interior. However the drawing in the Walker Art Gallery extends the interior to the left, thus confirming that the setting is that used in 'Off to the Pub' (Leeds City Art Gallery).

We are very grateful to Dr. Wendy Baron for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
