The left part of the composition, with the four large birds, the grebe, the red-breasted goose, the wigeon and the floating feather, as well as the head of the muscovy duck on the right, recur in Hondecoeter's smaller (159 x 144cm.), upright picture in the Rijksmuseum known as 'The Floating Feather'
