Lot Essay

The 'Eendracht' (= Union; a lion standing inside a fence was the symbol of the United Provinces of the Netherlands) was built in 1666 for the Admiralty of the Maas, replacing another 'Eendracht' which was blown up in the Battle of Lowestoft on 13 June 1665. She had 76-80 guns and was Michiel de Ruyter's admiral's ship during his last campaign in the Mediterranean, on board which he was mortally wounded in the battle of Livorno in 1676. The 'Eendracht' was wrecked in 1690
