A FRENCH BRONZE GAME CASKET, cast from a model by Auguste-Nicholas Cain,the hinged lid surmounted by a pheasant and her five chicks and with two pierced ivy clasps, the sides with four concave reliefs of further game: duck, rabbits, partridge and grouse, with handles at either end in the form of interlocking branches, the whole embellished with simulated basket work and trailing ivy, on four feet in the form of tree roots, two reliefs signed CAIN, second half 19th Century
