Lot Essay

The present group, which depicts Dalou's wife and child, was exhibited in marble at the Royal Academy in 1872 with great success under the title 'Maternal Joy'. The plaster maquette is in the Petit Palais, and was cast posthumously in bronze by Hébrard and Susse, and as in the present case in biscuit de Sèvres.
