Lot Essay

Alfred Boucher (1850-1934) exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1874 gaining wide recognition for his oeuvre, he was subsequently made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1887 and an Officier Grand Croix in 1925. The group Au But! was exhibited at the Salon of 1886 where it was awarded a first class medal. The following year the State commissioned a monumental bronze of the group for the Luxembourg Gardens.
