etching with drypoint, 1640, first state (of two), before the slipped stroke from the cap to the sitter's left cheek, a very good, delicate impression, watermark City Gates, with margins (wide at the bottom, narrow margins on the other three sides), a tiny loss at the lower right margin corner, a few unobtrusive foxmarks, remains of old tape and glue at three of the reverse sheet corners, other minor defects, otherwise generally in good condition
