Lot Essay

Mason was chiefly a marine painter, exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1900, but he also designed railway posters and designed the Queen's Christmas Card for 1939. He made extensive sketching tours in Britain (including his native Yorkshire) and on the Continent. In 1875 an exhibition of Mason's work took place at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich
