Henry Ryland, painter, illustrator and designer, studied at Heatherley's. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1890 and also at the Grosvenor Gallery and the New Watercolour Society. The present watercolour is typical of his work in the manner of Alma-Tadema and Albert Moore
