Engraved title by Caspar Merian after Hans Holbein, title with engraved vignette, one headpiece, 3 full-page engraved portraits, a full-page illustration of Erasmus's funeral monument, 81 engraved illustrations (some printed wrong way up, four are pasted in on folding slips at pp. 48, 86, 168 and 236, two others with flaps created by the binder), by Caspar Merian after Settler. (Title lightly soiled, marginal repairs to seven leaves, some light browning.) 18th-century boards (spine worn, inner joints split). Provenance: Theodore Besterman (E. P.
