2° (335 x 240mm.). Half-title, hand-coloured aquatint frontispiece by Paolo Fumagalli after A. Monticelli and 5 plates by D.K. Bonatti, A. Biasio or G. Gallina. Contemporary Milanese gilt-flecked sheep, covers with gilt tooled border, flat-backed spine gilt (but neatly repaired at head and foot), g.e.

EDITION LIMITED TO 80 COPIES. The frontispiece depicts an ancient Greek dance, four of the plates are of fragments of vases, wall-paintings and other antiquities, the final plate shows modern Greeks dancing in a classical landscape. Gironi, librarian of the Brera in Milan, but also an archaeologist and bibliographer produced two other related works on Greek costume and music. A second edition of this work was published in 1822.
