3 volumes, 2° (c. 300 x 205mm.). Engraved titles by Mathias Irala, engraved folding map of the West Indies in volume I, woodcut initial letters and head- and tailpieces. (Possibly lacking pages 575-6 of volume II, neat repairs to title of volume III and to two endpapers, small tear to Oo4 in volume II, affecting 5 lines of text, occasional marginal staining and slight browning.) Contemporary limp vellum with ties, in modern slipcases (covers repaired).
Second edition of Torquemada's work: Barcia explains in his preface that most of the first edition (published in Seville in 1615) was lost in a shipwreck en route to Mexico, and that he has only been able to locate three of the surviving copies. The folding map, by Herrera, was not included in the first edition. Sabin 96212; Palau 335033 (inexact collation). (3)
