Title with woodcut device, one folding woodcut plate (neatly repaired), 87 woodcut illustrations including a few repeats, many full-page, all of the author performing acrobatic feats. (Occasional soiling.) 17th-century French red morocco gilt (foot of spine skilfully repaired). Provenance: P. Couturier de Royas (booklabel).

FIRST EDITION, with the rarely-found folding woodcut of the author jumping through hoops held overhead by ten men. Tuccaro was gymnast and physical instructor to Emperor Maximilian II, whose duaghter Elizabeth of Austria he accompanied to France when she married Charles IX in 1570. Thereafter he remained in the service of the kings of France and this treatise is dedicated to Henri IV. Brunet V.972-3 ("assez rare"); Fairfax Murray French 553 (lacking folding plate).
